Why choose a GEN4?
First launched in 2017, the GEN4 engine is the culmination of 26 years of experience and development at Jabiru. It incorporates the technological advances accumulated over time, as well as everything we have learned about designing and manufacturing, in small series, an affordable aircraft engine. It also builds on the experience of more than 6,500 engines in service and includes many improvements developed across the GEN1, GEN2 and GEN3 generations.
These developments include, in particular, hydraulic roller tappets on the camshaft, dual valve springs, hardened upper spring washers, valve-relief pistons, as well as oil feeds to the pushrods. All of these improvements are part of an ongoing approach to increasing the reliability of Jabiru engines.
Reliability you can rely on
For an engine, safety is measured first and foremost by its reliability. It must start when you need it, stop only when you decide, and deliver consistent performance in between, with no unpleasant surprises.
Economic accessibility
Reducing the number of parts, made possible by greater use of cast and forged components, enables the Jabiru engine to remain one of the most competitive on the market for comparable power and weight.
Reliability
Development of the GEN4 focused on improving thermal behaviour through the evolution of the cylinder liners, pistons and cooling fins. It also addressed increased structural strength via a new configuration of the through-bolts, as well as improved durability of the cylinder head equipment and the flywheel attachment.
Maintainability
Maintainability improves significantly thanks to the introduction of corrosion-resistant liners. Design changes have also focused on ease of servicing and better overall accessibility during maintenance operations.

GEN4 engine specifications
Designed by aviation enthusiasts for pilots, Jabiru engines combine simplicity, reliability and performance in the service of flight.
A clear objective: to offer engines that are affordable, reliable and easy to maintain. They are designed in accordance with ASTM F2339 and within the ASTM F3246 quality framework, recognised by regulatory authorities accepting Light Sport Aircraft categories.
These are four-stroke engines with horizontally opposed cylinders, built primarily from aluminium. Cooling is provided by dynamic air (RAM air), and the propeller drive is direct. The fuel system is based on a pressure-compensated carburettor, fed by a mechanical pump on a naturally aspirated engine. The electrical system relies on an integrated generator, with dual ignition coils to produce the spark, as well as an electric starter for starting.
