Jabiru aircraft are operated worldwide under various approval regimes, including type certification, the Light Sport Aircraft category, and the Experimental category. To support the continued airworthiness of the entire fleet, Jabiru has implemented a Continued Operational Safety (COS) programme covering all its products. This programme complies with ASTM F3198, relating to the continued operational safety programme for Light Sport Aircraft manufacturers.

Developing service bulletins and service letters is a demanding and often lengthy process, as it generally relies on repeated identification of an in-service issue before a full engineering analysis can be carried out and fleet-wide recommendations can be published. In some cases, Jabiru may contact owners directly before the official publication of a service notice, either to gather information or to provide initial technical guidance.

It is in the interest of all Jabiru product owners to ensure their equipment is properly registered with Jabiru, so they can promptly receive direct information and recommendations. The most effective way is to register products via the members’ area or to contact Jabiru directly. In the event of resale of a Jabiru product, it is also important to provide the new owner’s contact details.

Jabiru strongly recommends implementing all service notices in the interest of safety, regardless of the product’s certification basis or the aeronautical authority under which it is operated.

Whether a service notice is mandatory or not depends on the operating rules in force in the product’s country of registration.

In Australia, the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998, Part 91.900 require Light Sport Aircraft pilots to comply with any safety directive or requirement issued by the aircraft manufacturer. Similar obligations exist with national civil aviation authorities that recognise the Light Sport Aircraft category.

For type-certified products, a notice must be complied with when it has been adopted as an airworthiness directive by the competent authority. For products operated under an Experimental certificate or an equivalent regime, responsibility for the design and continued airworthiness rests with the product owner.
