Why choose a GEN4?
First marketed in 2017, the GEN4 engine is the culmination of 26 years of know-how and experience accumulated by Jabiru in the field of aeronautical engines. It combines both the technological advances developed over time and everything we have learned about the design and manufacture, in small series, of an aeronautical engine that is both high-performing and economically accessible. It also capitalizes on the experience of more than 6,500 engines in service and incorporates numerous improvements from the GEN1, GEN2, and GEN3 generations.
These developments notably include roller hydraulic lifters on the camshaft, double valve springs, hardened upper spring washers, valve relief pistons, and pushrod oil feeds. All of these improvements are part of a continuous effort to strengthen the reliability of Jabiru engines.
Unfailing reliability
For an engine, safety translates above all into reliability. It must deliver its power when you request it, stop only when you decide, and offer smooth, reliable operation in between without unpleasant surprises.
Economic Accessibility
The reduction in the number of parts, made possible by increased use of cast and forged elements, allows Jabiru engines to remain among the most competitive solutions for comparable power and mass.
Reliability
The development of the GEN4 focused on improving thermal behavior through the evolution of cylinder liners, pistons, and cooling fins. It also focused on strengthening structural resistance via a new configuration of through-bolts, as well as improving the durability of the cylinder head equipment and the flywheel attachment.
Maintainability
Maintainability has progressed significantly thanks to the introduction of corrosion-resistant liners. Design evolutions have also focused on ease of service and better accessibility during maintenance operations.

GEN4 Engine Specifications
Jabiru engines are designed by aviation people, for aviation people, with a clear objective: to offer engines that are affordable, reliable, and easy to maintain. They are designed and manufactured in accordance with the ASTM F2339 standard and within the ASTM F3246 quality framework, recognized by regulatory authorities accepting Light Sport Aircraft categories.
These are 4-stroke engines, with horizontally opposed cylinders, constructed mainly of aluminum. Cooling is provided by RAM air and the propeller drive is direct. The fuel system relies on a pressure-compensated carburetor, fed by a mechanical pump, on a naturally aspirated engine. The electrical system is provided by an integrated generator, with a dual ignition coil for spark production, as well as an electric starter for starting.
